OK, I haven't tried all the recipes but...

I started baking bread a few years ago employing the techniques of Artisan Bread in 5-Minutes. While that got me started, I remained somewhat intimidated by the whole process, especially recipes requiring sponge, sourdough starters or preferment, as Josey utilizes in his method. I approached this book with trepidation, a little overwhelmed by all the info and easy flow of options, but I have to say I was thrilled with the result. This bread has an excellent crust, flavor and crumb and slices beautifully for toast...something my previous loaves didn't. I'm sold...so much so I sent my sons to The Mill last time they were in SF in order to bring me a loaf. Sadly (for me) but happily (for Josey) he was getting married that weekend and no loaves available. Not to be deterred, they brought me a piece of cinnamon raisin (brown sugar and butter) toast. Awesome! Thanks to Josey for taking the time to write this book and to share his enthusiastic love of baking. I was intrigued by his journey and I am again inspired. I also like that he offers recipes for many types of grains, such as kamut. I haven't dealt with the metric measurements but have had no problems thus far by following the standard measuring method. I may even start a bread journal. If you buy this book, enjoy your bread making journey!

The Glory of Bread

He's a super happy guy for discovering his gift of breadmaking and simply wanted to write a book that he wish he had when he started... that makes this a really accessible beginner book that gets you excited to make bread! I have a girlfriend who was obsessed over her sourdough and I thought it was just her, but now I see, that passion is a wonderful force that changes how people view food, one of the most important things in life. And by re-valueing something as basic as bread, one's entire perspective on life can change. So, if you want to change the world, the first step is making your own bread with this book as your guide. It's beautifully crafted, with an adorable bookmark, great photos, and well-written instructions. Fellow bread bakers might be interested in Traditional Breads of the World... which is just an interesting read as it is chockfull of recipes!

Excellent addition to my library

Excellent book with pictures and step by step instructions. Using a tutorial format, the author supports you through different breads moving from simpler to more complex loaves. I'm an experienced baker, but new to artisan breads. This book is exactly what I was looking for. Here's my first Josey loaf.....

"Manning and Anderson (both, Univ. of Vermont) have written a timely, pragmatic, and useful work, a must read for managers of all lands visited by tourists/outdoor enthusiasts, students in land management programs, and policy makers. The well-informed park user would also find it valuable. Part 1, divided into five chapters, provides a conceptual and methodological basis for the book. Chapter 1 is a concise conceptual framework. Following chapters survey human impacts on parks, and examine, evaluate, and apply management practices. Part 2 contains 20 succinct case study chapters that illustrate discrete management problems and remarkable success in the context of national parks. These include mitigation of trail use by millions of visitors and overuse of backcountry campsites in Acadia and on the Appalachian Trail; management of light, noise, and human waste problems Chaco, Muir Woods, and Mt. Whitney; successful handling of vegetation and habitat issues at the National Mall and at Katmai; and resolving visitor transportation and safety issues at Zion and Yosemite. The case studies are pithy, appropriate, and results-oriented. Chapter 26 in part 3 presents lessons learned through 36 management principles. Sloppy Book...

I am currently taking a two week elective that is designed around this book in order to help me learn ECG's. There are several positives about the book. First, there are numerous examples (hundreds) of ECG's with explanations that help one learn. Second, the nice 10-day format is designed well with not too much info on a particular day. However, there are so many blatant mistakes in the book that I don't see how anyone could use this book as their only reference material for ECG's. There are so many mistakes that it is embarrassing. The mistakes consist of misprints and lack of completeness in the answer key. Therefore I am doing ok using the book because I attend a two-hour class every day with a Cardiologist that explains the blunders. If you do not have this luxury I advise either going with another book or buying a second book to help with your understanding. Best of luck...

Although not as well-organized as Dubin. This is a great book with TONS of practice ECGs. I used this in the few weeks before starting internship and it put me in great shape for starting reading ECGs immediately.
